Job description

This tenure-track position within our department involves both teaching and developing or expanding a line of research. More specifically, the candidate is expected to deliver high quality teaching in courses on prevention and public health. The candidate will also be involved in the coordination and supervision of BSc and MSc internships.
Furthermore, the candidate is expected to write innovative proposals to acquire external funds, thereby establishing a personal research line. This research line should be embedded within, or closely linked to, one of the research topics within our department, from a public health perspective.


The candidate is expected to have:
  • a PhD in the field of Health Sciences, Health Psychology or a closely related field
  • a basic qualification in teaching for Dutch universities ('BKO'), or be willing to acquire this qualification after appointment, or holding a comparable (international) qualification
  • should be comfortable in teaching in the Dutch and English language
  • enthusiasm for teaching an being able to motivate students
  • a strong proven track record of international publications
  • a proven track record in writing research grant proposals, preferably substantiated with successful acquisition of external funds.
  • excellent social skills, and be an excellent team builder and collaborator

What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of € 3637.- and a maximum € 4978.- in accordance with salary scale 11, depending on your education and experience. The job profile (Assistant professor / Universitair docent 2) is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for 0.8 FTE.

We offer a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor, for the duration of 5 years. Within an agreed period, tenure could be achieved if the faculty criteria are fulfilled. During the tenure, the performance will be evaluated in terms of research quality, teaching, publication record, and acquisition of project funding. After a successful evaluation, permanent employment will be granted in the position of Assistant Professor / Universitair Docent 1.

The department of Health Sciences
The department Health Sciences is looking for a tenure-track assistant professor Prevention & Public Health (UD). The department of Health Sciences uses an evidence-based and interdisciplinary approach to improve health and healthcare. We aim to realize this through independent education, research, and valorisation of research results.
The research of our department is devoted to public health. The definition of public health we use is "the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals. More specifically, the research focusses on the following topics: prevention, nutrition, lifestyle & youth, infectious diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and health technology assessment.
As for teaching, within the Faculty of Sciences the section Prevention & Public Health is involved in, or coordinates, the courses on Prevention & public health for Bsc and Msc programs in Health Sciences and Health and Life Sciences.
