The Department of Organization Sciences invites applicans for a position of a Lecturer (Docent) in Organization Studies. We are looking for a candidate with teaching experience in a range of areas related to organization studies.

Job description

The Department of Organization Sciences http://www.fsw.vu.nl/en/departments/organization-sciences/#.WHZAa9IrLRY has an opening for a Lecturer (Docent) in Organization Studies. We seek a candidate with a strong teaching agenda that demonstrates the ability to promote our students’ intellectual and personal development, and prepare them to succeed, lead and serve in the current complex workplace. Teaching is mainly in Dutch but also in English, at bachelor and master levels, primarily in the areas of organization theory/strategy, organizational change/culture, and methodology (of either qualitative or quantitative methodology but we are open to multiple methodologies), including seminars and thematic courses.

Your duties
  • mentoring students (including bachelor, masters and doctoral students)
  • conducting high quality teaching both off and online
  • theses supervision, at both Bachelor and Masters levels
Candidates should be willing to acquire a basic qualification in teaching (BKO) as demanded by Dutch universities (if not already acquired). We encourage the prospective candidate to have an active research agenda and seek external funding to support his/her research activities from Dutch and other resources: EU grants and the public and private sectors.


We are looking for candidates who are:
  • holding a Ph.D. degree in Organization Studies, Management or other relevant Social Science
  • willing to teach core and methodological courses
  • supervise theses in the various programs offered by the department
  • experience and expertise in online teaching in terms of content and tools
  • willing to take up administrative tasks related to teaching

What are we offering?

A challenging position in a societal engaged organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,746 (scale 11)
and a maximum €5,127 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension for another two years.

Additionally, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers excellent fringe benefits and various schemes and regulations to promote a good work/life balance, such as:
  • remuneration of 8,3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday allowance
  • a minimum of 29 holidays in case of full-time employment

Faculty of Social Sciences
The Faculty of Social Sciences examines the major social problems of our time from multiple perspectives. From bullying at school to dealing with transnational immigration, from the rise of populist politicians to creating a self-reliant society. About the department
Teaching in the department of Organization Sciences is organized according to three different programs. A Bachelor program in Public Administration and Organization Science (B&O) and two master programs: Culture Organization and Management (COM, an English program) and Policy, Communication and Organization (BCO, a Dutch program). Research in the Department of Organization Sciences is carried out in the OPOS Research Program. OPOS stands for Organizations and Processes of Organizing in Society. The mission of OPOS is to advance the understanding of organizational processes through the lens of organizations as interdependent systems. Interdependence plays an important role in both internal organizational processes (cooperation and conflict between coworkers at micro-level and between teams and departments at meso-level) and external organizational processes (how organizations cooperate and compete within their environment at macro-level
