Job description

The Academic Language Programme (ALP) of the Faculty of Humanities at VU Amsterdam is looking for two lecturers of Academic English, for a minimum of 0.2 fte and a maximum of 0.5 fte, starting January 1st, 2021. As a lecturer for ALP you will teach writing skills for students from different majors varying from History to Computer Science. In addition to teaching on the BA and MA levels, we are especially interested in a lecturer who could teach courses for PhD candidates.
 

Requirements

  • a master's degree in English language and culture, or a related field
  • ample experience in teaching writing for university students
  • teaching experience with different academic disciplines
  • a PhD degree in a relevant field of linguistics is preferred but not required
  • availability for (potential) in-person teaching in Amsterdam; experience with online teaching


What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On a full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,790 (scale 10)
and a maximum €4,402 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile at the ‘Docent 4’ level  is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.2 FTE.

The initial employment contract will be for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

The Academic Language Programme (www.fgw.vu.nl/alp) offers courses for a wide range of bachelor's and master's programmes at the VU as well as for PhD candidates. The ALP works together with directors of these programmes to optimize the teaching of language skills relevant to their disciplines.
