Sixt Share: A sustainable answer to the mobility challenge

Interview with Karen van den Boom, CEO SIXT Benelux

Mobility is a major concern not just in Zuidas, but also nationally, with the coronavirus outbreak sparking debate about how we can handle commuter traffic in future. This is also a hot topic for international mobility service provider SIXT. With the launch of an innovative car-sharing service called SIXT share, they’re already taking a big step towards a sustainable future. ‘For us, this is not only a sustainable concept but also a good alternative for owning a car in the city’, says Karen van den Boom, CEO of SIXT Benelux.

ONGOING TOPIC

SIXT share is a free-floating service. Users can collect and leave cars in three cities in the Netherlands and at all SIXT branches countrywide. It’s as easy as grabbing a car in Amsterdam, driving to Rotterdam or The Hague, and then leaving it there. If you need a car for the return trip too, simply collect another car later. With this one service, SIXT handily connects different cities in a way that’s flexible and minimizes distances and additional hassles. Van den Boom: ‘Sustainability is an important ongoing topic that we always consider in our own initiatives and also discuss with the government and other stakeholders.’

DIVERSE RANGE

That the whole SIXT share fleet is electric is no surprise – in fact, it was a key requisite. But that’s not to say this initiative is no different to existing sustainable car-sharing schemes. ‘Diversity is very central for us and we want to cater to users’ wants as much as possible. Whether you’re a CEO in Zuidas who wants to drive a Jaguar or your budget’s smaller, we have a wide selection of cars’, Van den Boom explains. SIXT hopes this will maximize its appeal for all partners. Those include Colliers International, with whom Van den Boom has examined sustainable mobility solutions in urban developments, and also additional cities with which she’s discussing expansion of SIXT share. ‘These partnerships are essential, in order to reach the objectives of the cities to improve air quality and quality of life.’ Karen van den Boom concludes.

TRAVELLING SAFELY

Especially now, individual transport is currently experiencing an impressive comeback as the classic rental car as well as carsharing services are seen more and more as a comparably safe alternative to public transport. Therefore, customers’ safety is a top priority for SIXT. With SIXT share, SIXT completes the integrated mobility mix of its global mobility platform SIXT ONE in the Netherlands. With the products SIXT rent, SIXT share and SIXT ride, the company offers a unique range of mobility services.
